Is 3-D Printing worth your attention?

Some of you might have heard already about a strange device that can make miracles and create 3-D items that you can afterwards touch with your own hands. Just 50 years ago people would suggest you are kind of crazy but today it is hard to get surprised. Creativity of the scientists has no limits.

And yes indeed, it has become possible. 3-D Printers can create objects that you designed on a computer with a special software. Once you have an idea and a design you can print anything you want from plastic, ceramic, plaster, stainless steel and in the near future from silver.

No cheap stuff from China any more. You can make everything at home. They even promise that soon it will be possible to make your own jewelry at home. Isn't that a miracle.

For now printers cost about $2,000, different supplies and materials will be cheaper but still in general for now it's a pretty expensive toy. Since not everybody can afford it now some people are pretty critical about the invention. Their main idea is that nobody will want such a printer at home, there is no demand and even no necessity in such a product for domestic use. Well... as history has shown same criticism faced first private cars, first TV's, computers, printers and mobile phones. There are always some conservative skeptics who never believe in the progress and prefer to go back to prehistoric times and living in caves. It's their choice.

For the rest of the society the technological progress is moving forward and developing new better technologies that make our life better and more convenient.

More people are getting involved in the new technology. And not just in the technological process itself but also in the investing part. More people want to contribute and invest because they already feel the smell of big future profits. The technology is developing, getting more sophisticated and promises to create a real technological boom pretty soon.

As from the economic point of vie the new technology reduces the costs of the products because there is no more need to  find cheap places to produce stuff (like China) and no need to spend lots of money on transportation, storing and selling all the goods. Seems like the problem with oversupply is vanishing. If everybody produces only for himself then there is no excessive amount of goods that need to be sold. Since each individual will need to buy only the supplies and materials  he might also be interested in buying ready designs through internet and then just download it to his computer and print it at home with no or slight modifications. Isn't that cheaper than all the costs and expenses that cause the transportation, production and selling of the items. The Greens should also be happy since it will reduce the pollution and will help to preserve the nature.

I would give this technology some more time to become more sophisticated with more options and opportunities. The price of the printer will also eventually get lower and become more affordable for customers. After that i would suggest some good marketing and aggressive introduction of the product to the market and you will see how we all will get crazy about a new toy and be buying all the designs and supplies to try the super machine at home.

Many people already started investing in the companies producing 3-D Printers. There are 3 major companies who do the Printers and their Shares can be bought on the Stock Market. Stratasys, Inc., Hewlett-Packard Company, 3D Systems Corporation are among them.
